U.S. Distance Education Associations

In the USA, there are many distance education associations of the state and national levels. The national level’s associations are DETC (the Distance Education & Training Council), USDLA (the U.S. Distance Learning Association) and FGDLA (the Federal Government Distance Learning Association).
DETC is a non-profit academic association, which serves as a clearinghouse about the correspondence field and distance study. Th association is actually an authority on distance education accreditation in the country. This accreditation is institutional; it is extended to the accredited institution only and the approved programs. Distance study programs as well as distance study-related activities are under the management, ownership, and run of the accredited institution; they are comprised in the accreditation.
USDLA is non-profit establishment that is run under the management of the U. S. Distance Learning Association. This offers direct broadcast academic programs for the Higher Education, Pre K-12, General Public and Teacher Professional Development constituencies. Also, the offerings are presented in teacher training, foreign language instruction, and other essential information utilizing digital transmission technology.
FGDLA is a non-profit foundation designed to promote the application and development of distance learning.
The state level’s associations are FDLA (Florida Distance Learning Association), GDLA (Georgia Distance Learning Association), MADL (Michigan Association for Distance Learning) and many others. These promote distance learning and development in the respective states. Amongst the world’s distance education associations, several are EDEN (European Distance Education Network) and COL (Commonwealth of Learning). For example, European Distance Education Network assists to foster some developments in distance learning.
